Every year, Lafayette Public Elementary school puts on professional productions of musical theater that transcend expectations for an elementary school public or private.
Lafayette is identified as San Francisco's premier elementary school and it is an inspirational story worth telling, that dispels disparaging beliefs about the limits of public elementary schools in our city. Audiences are always blown away by the talent and level of professionalism of each production put on by the director, Amal Bisharat.
The plays are entirely put on by parents who bring their professional theater, costume design, graphic design, voice, and art backgrounds together each year to stage these jaw dropping productions.

The productions involve well over 100 students every year, and many of the students who have participated in the Lafayette musicals eventually go on to study at The Ruth Asawa School of the Arts High School.
The musicals at Lafayette highlight what a public school can do when everyone comes together and brings their talents. From the moment the students audition until they are on stage with magnificent sets, students truly get to experience what it means to be a part of a serious, yet fun musical production.
